Operated by Landmark since 1997. Like the city of its location, the Main Art Theatre offers something for everyone. Located in the heart of downtown Royal Oak, it is surrounded by a number of galleries, restaurants and other one-of-a-kind businesses that have come to typify this funky enclave. The theatre was originally built in the early 1940s as a single-screen theatre. As the face of Royal Oak changed, so did that of the Main Art, embracing an eclectic mix of sophistication and fun. Today, the theatre features the Detroit area's finest selection of independent film and foreign language cinema.

The Main consistently shows intelligent, moving films.

Some times it's the only place a movie is showing. Plus you have the downtown Royal Oak vibe with great places nearby to eat and drink. And the house itself is beautifully preserved. A wonderful example of architecture. Great popcorn, too!
